MOND is a resident artist at Korea’s Gana Atelier and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Fine Arts Münster, Germany. He employs a distinctive technique of spreading paint by blowing, which he describes as “expressing waves without the direct touch of tools” to portray the universe.
Blowing breath, often used metaphorically to signify the transfer of energy, becomes central to his process. By “blowing” particles and waves that constitute the universe, including GPS signals, light, and other forms of energy, MOND’s work symbolizes the diffusion of his energy into every corner of existence. Viewed through this lens, his works suggest that the finite particles and waves on the bounded plane of the canvas seem to transcend its edges, expanding infinitely.
MOND’s method of expressing particles and waves through blowing rather than traditional brushwork connects deeply with the quantum mechanical principle of uncertainty. He has stated that his work is greatly inspired by this principle, which posits that the position and momentum of a particle cannot both be precisely determined. The individual and unpredictable nature of the particles in his art visualizes this fundamental tenet of quantum mechanics.
Through his unique approach, MOND creates a fusion of scientific concepts and visual aesthetics, offering viewers a profound experience that invites reflection on the universe, energy, and humanity’s place within it.
