Reiko TSUNASHIMA’s art consists of abstract expressions created with Sumi(ink in Japanese). Though the imagery may initially resemble natural landscapes, she refers to it as “Scene of Sumi.” The climate during the creation process has a significant impact on the ink, water, and paper, making the work a “co-creation with nature.” As she moves the brush, the ink’s natural bleeding is embraced as an inevitable part of the process, capturing the “something” that emerges from it. At the same time, she meticulously plans the cutouts and layout of the panels, establishing a simple yet original style of expression.
