Mikhaela Marie | Impermanence and Uncertainties II | Oil on Canvas | 152.4 x 152.4 公分 | 2024

Known for her monochromatic and minimalist aesthetic, Mikhaela Marie (b. 1988) is a Filipina self-taught artist who regards painting as a means of rediscovery and self-redemption. Central to her practice is the still life genre, where she draws inspiration from the mundane and everyday—particularly the quiet presence of common objects, botanicals, and domestic flora. By choosing these as her subjects, she translates personal observations of her surroundings—formed in moments of calm as well as during times of uncertainty and hardship—into contemplative visual expressions.

Drawing inspiration from everyday objects, botanicals, and domestic flora, she transforms the ordinary into contemplative visual expressions that reflect both calm and hardship. Through a restrained palette, refined use of light, and attention to negative space, her works evoke memory, transience, and emotional depth—inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and find resonance in the quiet presence of the overlooked.
