Kohei Nawa was born in Osaka in 1975 and completed a Master’s degree in Sculpture at the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts.
Centering on the concept of “PixCell,” which fuses Pixel (the smallest unit of a digital image) and Cell (as in cells or vessels), he creates sculptures and spatial works by combining the unique properties of diverse materials such as polyurethane foam, glass beads, and prism sheets with cutting-edge technology.
Small works from the sculpture series Mol, created based on the probability distribution of electrons surrounding water molecules, are enclosed and preserved within a “cell” in the form of a glass dome.
Each piece inside features the texture of the Velvet series, in which the surface of the motif is covered with fine piles, giving it a unique three-dimensionality that distorts the viewer’s sense of scale.
