British artist Charlotte Keates centered around the theme of “portal.” Her compositions, through doors, windows, corridors, and circular shapes suggesting entry and exit, invite viewers to step inside and imagine themselves moving through the space, experiencing the domestic atmosphere of the interior while simultaneously taking in the exterior scenery. She collaborated with Hermès, creating a series of installation works for the brand’s window displays and terrace that convey a vibrant, lively sense of daily life.

Keates demonstrates a keen observation of how spatial planning interacts with various building materials. She further juxtaposes tangible objects with reflections, shadows, and other real and imagined elements, meticulously organizing them into richly detailed and highly refined compositions. Her works convey the organic nature, warmth, and lived-in quality of space.
